We were so blessed this year to host a wonderful Thanksgiving at our home. We were initially going to have just 10 with my family of 7 and my mom and brothers. From there, we invited my best friend and her partner and my brother, Russ, invited a delightful girl from work named Stephanie. My mom then asked if we could invite a Korean couple and their 3 girls. They are doctors that my mom works with and they are in to all things "american" and had never had a Thanksgiving before. (They have only been in the states since July) As is traditional in their culture, they brought gifts for everyone (including OUR guests). As it turns out, Dr. Joe (the husband) was the absolute life of the party!!! He was not what you would call "shy". He was a conductor at one time and also played classical guitar like my brother. The two of them took turns playing for us and then Dr. Joe got into playing old Neil Diamond and John Denver songs and everyone was singing and having a great time! My favorite part had to be when Russell played, though. He is so incredibly talented... he truly makes me cry. The Korean girls had a great time with my kids and they all got along beautifully. Dr. Kim (the wife) was so loving and gentle and kind with her kids... I have to say, I spent most of the night feeling like the loud, obnoxious, crass, american, but she was absolutely lovely. Everyone pitched in to help with set up, cooking or clean-up, so it was truly a group effort. I was reminded throughout the night of what wonderful friends and family I have. It was such a special night and not one we will soon forget.
